How many Least Terns are left?
Approved answer
Population Recovery
As of 2021, thanks to several years of dedicated conservation initiatives, the population of Least Terns had risen to approximately 18,000 individuals. This significant increase allowed the species to be officially delisted from the Endangered Species List. Interestingly, on the island of Bonaire in the southern Caribbean, these adaptable birds are known to sometimes occupy abandoned American Flamingo nests.
