Blue Jays are nearly a foot long, making them one of the larger birds you may find in Massachusetts backyards. At close range, their distinct appearance is easy to recognize: they display bright blue feathers on their upper body, feature a sharp crest, possess a straight black bill, and have a black "chinstrap" that stretches from their ears to their chest.
