According to Gen. Eric Smith, the 39th Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps, during a recent event at the Brookings Institution, the MV-22 is considered a safe aircraft. He mentioned that its accident rate per 100,000 flight hours is comparable to or even better than that of any other aircraft in operation.
