According to Gen. Eric Smith, the 39th Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps, the Osprey is a critical asset. During a recent event at the Brookings Institution, he affirmed, “The MV-22 is a safe airplane. Its mishap rate per 100,000 flight hours is comparable to or better than that of any other airframe in operation.”
