According to General Eric Smith, the 39th Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps, speaking at a recent event hosted by the Brookings Institution, the MV-22 is considered a safe aircraft. He noted that its accident rate per 100,000 flight hours is comparable to or lower than that of any other operational airframe.
