Overview of Main Characters

The central figures in different adaptations generally remain unchanged: the White Swan Queen, Odette; Prince Siegfried; the owl-magician, Baron Von Rothbart; and his daughter, Odile, who represents the Black Swan. Baron Von Rothbart has placed a curse on young women, transforming them into swans by day and restoring their human form at night, confining them to a lake nestled deep within a forest.
