Overview of the Whimbrel

The Whimbrel, belonging to the sandpiper family, is represented by four recognized subspecies. One of these subspecies, Numenius phaeopus hudsonicus, is found in the northwestern region of Alaska as well as around western Hudson Bay. During the winter months, this subspecies migrates to areas ranging from the south-central United States to South America.
